Save Water this Summer!

Summer is here!  In the past, that might have meant cooling off by running through the sprinklers or relaxing by the pool.  However, times have changed.  As more people become aware of the issues surrounding the Southwest’s water use there are still some out there that remain uninformed.  Tougher water laws and fines are looming on the horizon, and in many places, are already here.  Where do we go as concerned citizens to learn more about our personal and our region’s water use?  Perhaps you don’t think that one person can make a change or don’t know how to make a change.  Below are some resources and suggestions:

1.    To start off, learn how much water you as an individual use.
2.    Ask to be put on your local water authority’s email list.  (San Diegans can either call 858.522.6700 or visit 20gallonchallenge.com)
3.    Another great resource for Californians is the newly launched California Department of Water Resources’ website.
4.    Use water wise practices both indoors and outside.  Sometimes saving water is as easy as a brick in the water tank of your toilet.
5.    Eliminate water waste.  Stop putting off fixing that leaky faucet or toilet that constantly runs.  Adjust your sprinklers’ watering times to avoid runoff and water waste.
6.    Use the latest technologies to make your property water conservation friendly.
7.    Hire a CLCA manager to ensure that your water is portioned and landscape managed wisely.
